Static QR codes: the content is written into the code itself, with no redirection through our servers. It will always work, unlike “dynamic” QR codes that stop working at the end of a free trial. Static vs. dynamic: the difference

What should your QR code open?
Content: SMS

International number (+44…), French number or short code (36179).

32 characters at most. A short prompt works best.

    Error correction M

Share of the code that can be damaged, dirty or covered without preventing reading. The higher it is, the more modules the code has.

100% local processing, nothing is uploaded

    How does it work?

Enter the recipient’s number (international with its country code, or a short code) and the text of the message. The code follows the SMSTO: format, the most widely recognized: when scanned, it opens the Messages app with the number and text ready to send.

As with an email, nothing is sent without the consent of the person scanning. Remember to state next to the code what the SMS triggers and any cost: a message to a short code may be charged at a premium rate.

    Examples

    Unsubscribing

The text “STOP” to the short code 36179 fits in 16 bytes: the simplest code, 21 × 21 modules, readable from 30 cm (1 ft) at just 3.5 cm (1.4 in) per side.

    Confirming an appointment

A clinic prints on its cards the code “I confirm my appointment” to its mobile number: 33 × 33 modules, 5 cm (2 in) for a scan from 30 cm. Patients confirm in two taps, without copying a number.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is the SMS sent automatically?
No: the phone prepares the message and waits for the person to press “Send”. They can also edit the text first.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes: the camera on both systems recognizes SMS codes and offers to open Messages. On a tablet without a mobile plan, the message obviously cannot be sent.
Can I use a foreign number?
Yes, with its country code (+1, +44…). A 10-digit French number is automatically converted to the international +33 format.
    Will my QR code expire?
No. The QR codes created here are static: your link, text or credentials are written into the pattern of the code itself. There is no server between the phone and your content, so there is nothing to renew or pay for: the code will work as long as the content (your website, for example) exists.
