    How does it work?

    Enter the latitude and longitude in decimal degrees (for example 48.636063 and −1.511457). To get them, right-click the place in your online map app: the coordinates appear and can be copied in one click. The code contains a geo: link (RFC 5870 standard), accurate to about 10 cm (4 in).

    When scanned, it opens the point in the phone’s map app, from which the person starts navigation. It is more precise than an address for a service entrance, a parking lot, a meeting point in the countryside or access to a large site.

    The coordinates 48.636063 and −1.511457 fit in 23 bytes: a code of 25 × 25 modules. On an information board read from 1 m (3 ft), allow 13.2 cm (5.2 in) per side.

    A meeting point

    On an invitation to a hike, read from 30 cm (1 ft), the same 25 × 25 module code only needs 4 cm (1.6 in). Participants find the starting parking lot, even without a postal address.

    Frequently asked questions

    Which map app opens?
    The phone’s own: Maps on iPhone, Google Maps or another map app on Android. The person then chooses their mode of transport.
    Latitude and longitude: in which order?
    Always latitude (north-south, from −90 to 90) first, then longitude (east-west, from −180 to 180). West of Greenwich the longitude is negative; south of the equator, the latitude is negative.
    Can I use a Google Maps link instead?
    Yes, with the “Link” type: the code will open the page in the browser or the app. The geo: link has the advantage of being independent of any service and never changing.
    Will my QR code expire?
    No. The QR codes created here are static: your link, text or credentials are written into the pattern of the code itself. There is no server between the phone and your content, so there is nothing to renew or pay for: the code will work as long as the content (your website, for example) exists.
