How does it work?

Click Turn on the camera and allow access when the browser asks: the rear camera is chosen on phones, the webcam on computers. Point at the code: it is read automatically and the camera turns off straight away. No image is saved or sent: each frame is analyzed on your device, then forgotten.

The scanner recognizes the type of content and offers the useful action: open a link (after checking and confirmation), show the password of a Wi-Fi network, save a contact as .vcf, add an event to your calendar as .ics, copy a text, or show the details of a bank transfer.

Decoding uses the reader built into the browser when there is one (Chrome on Android and macOS, for example), otherwise ZXing, a free library downloaded from this site and run locally.

The Wi-Fi of a holiday rental

The code displayed in the hallway gives the network Pine-Lodge, WPA2-encrypted, and its 16-character password: show it with one click or copy it to type it on a laptop that has no rear camera.

An invitation with a date

The code on an invitation contains an event: Saturday, June 12, 2027 from 3 pm to 11 pm, with the venue address. A click on “Add to calendar” downloads an .ics file that your phone’s calendar or Outlook imports directly.

Frequently asked questions

Why won’t the camera turn on?
The browser must be allowed to use it: click the icon to the left of the address bar (computer) or open Settings > Safari > Camera (iPhone). The camera may also be in use by another app, such as a video call. Otherwise, take a photo of the code and import the image.
Do I need to install an app?
No. On a phone, the camera app already reads most QR codes; this online scanner is mainly useful on a computer, or when you want to check a link before opening it. It works in recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
Does the scanner open links by itself?
Never. It first shows the full address and its domain in large type, flags common traps, then asks you to confirm before opening the link in a new tab.
Are my images and camera feed sent anywhere?
No. The camera only turns on when you click “Turn on the camera” and stops as soon as a code is read or you leave the page. Images are analyzed in your browser; none are saved or sent. Only the decoding program may be downloaded from this site, if your browser lacks one.
